Microsoft Windows 7 has several advantages, making it a more stable and secure operating system than Windows XP and Vista.

Windows 7 has the media’s attention since the last operating system released by Microsoft – Windows Vista – had several bugs and was even incompatible with many peripherals installed on a user’s computer.

The Windows 7 upgrade promises to have better compatibility, better speed, and increased security for home and business users. Beta testers for Microsoft Windows 7 have reported several advantages for users who decide to upgrade. Users who buy Windows 7 also need to check system requirements prior to installation.

Better Device Support and Stability than Windows Vista

Windows Vista was released in 2007. The moment it was released, several users reported that devices were unrecognized by the operating system. Unless the hardware component was new, Windows Vista was unable to recognize and use the device and some users lost hard drive data.

This forced several Vista users to return to Windows XP. The additional issue with Windows Vista is that it required at least 2GB of memory to run efficiently. Users who upgraded found the performance of the new operating system unbearable, which is why its predecessor – Windows XP – still remains on many computers.

Windows 7 promises to eliminate these issues. Beta users report that Windows 7 has a better interface, and performance has improved over older operating systems. Devices are also compatible with the Windows 7 upgrade, so users do not experience the hardware issues like Vista.

Windows 7 and Home Networking

One advantage that a Windows 7 upgrade has over Vista and XP is the home networking discount and an easier interface for quickly connecting machines in the home. Microsoft offers a 3-user discount for Windows 7 upgrades, so users can more affordably upgrade all machines in the home and create a network using the same operating system, making connectivity easier to implement.

Another advantage to a Windows 7 upgrade is the ability to share resources over a home network more securely. Wireless connections have become more popular in the home, and this type of network is a point of insecurity on the network. Windows 7 allows users to easily connect with other computers in the home or small office, and the operating system has better security against unscrupulous hackers who gain access through wireless connections.

Better Media Sharing and Storage

Since Windows XP, media changes have developed like iPods and online video and music streaming. For instance, MP3 formats and iPods are more popular than the days of Windows XP. A Windows 7 upgrade makes media sharing more seamless and easier to implement across a small network. Users are able to drag and drop media and view shared files on a network more easily than with old Microsoft Media Player software. Users are able to utilized TV and DVR tuners, making the creation and viewing of media easier than former Windows operating systems.

These few advantages of Windows 7 are helpful for any user who has problems with a current Windows operating system. Before upgrading, ensure the computer hardware is compatible by checking Microsoft’s website for any incompatibility issues.
